Outfit for Today: Inverted Triangle Style

Most people say I have a strange and unusual style. I'm not afraid to pair things together that others might otherwise wear with simple, basic colors. There's nothing wrong with that way of dressing, but I prefer to take risks. Sometimes, my risks bomb, horribly. Sometimes, on a day like today, I feel they pay off tremendously.

Today I wore plaid-printed Oxford flats. This type of shoe does wonders for the calves and leg. My body type is: Inverted Triangle. Everything is on top. I have nice legs, small hips, waist, and no butt. I need to create the illusion that I have curves on the bottom while downplaying my large chest and broad shoulders on top. This is done by wearing a black long-sleeved shirt.

To create the illusion of curves on the bottom, i wear a lighter-colored ruffled mini skirt, use a light-colored belt to accentuate my waist and nip in a light blue sleeveless vest. This gives even more volume at my waist. Now, instead of being an Inverted Triangle, I have created the illusion that I am an Hourglass, or a proportionate figure.

The goal of dressing is to appear proportionate, unless you're Lady Gaga, then you do whatever you damn well please and still look fabulous every day. Lucky Gaga.

The Thrift Troubles

Good evening lovelies! Tonight, I want to talk to you about something that is becoming a growing problem in this country and unfortunately doesn't look like it will be dying down any time soon: bed bugs. Those nasty little guys are everywhere, and unfortunately popping up in stores now, mostly thrift! This has been a major bummer for myself lately because instead of being able to be excited about going into a thrift store and find a cool decoration or funky purse, I now have to worry.

Everyone should be very cautious about the possibility of bringing home unwanted companions since now they're on both coasts, but that doesn't mean you have to stop going to them completely. Anything you buy from a second-hand or thrift store, you must and i mean, YOU MUST inspect thoroughly with a magnifying glass. The reason why is because bedbugs aren't visible to the naked eye and they can survive without feeding or getting out of the item for up to 6 months.

It is very important to clean every single thing that you purchase from a store. If it's clothing, throw it into the washer immediately. DO NOT bring it into the house. If they're shoes, take a magnifying class and go over every inch. If it's an accessory, same thing. Anything you purchase you must turn inside out and have it cleaned thoroughly.

So long as you practice safe shopping, you won't have to practice finding a new house!

A bit of light reading: $50 or Less

Good evening lovelies! I hope your week has gone wonderfully. Due to my extreme work schedule this past week, I was unable to post Wednesday.

Tonight, I am bringing you a bit of light reading. I have been on a serious reading binge lately. I read whenever I can. The past few purchases have been fashion-related reading and I have not regretted a single one. My favorite recent purchases have made me laugh more than most realize fashion books can do.

A bit of light reading

$50 or Less

This is a wonderful style guide. I feel like I know a lot when it comes to building a wardrobe and translating outfits and pieces when it comes to packing for a trip or from occasion to occasion, but I'm not even halfway through this book and I've already learned so much. I recommend this for anyone, especially someone who feels like they're not sure how to tie a wardrobe together fully and what they might or might not need.

This book is HILARIOUS. It's also very educational because it has 100 mistakes that women make. Every mistake has a hilarious story behind it. Clinton doesn't fail to deliver. This book was worth every penny and more! My next purchase will be his "Freakin' Fabulous" book. For anyone who's watched "What Not To Wear", Clinton is hysterical and smart and stylish. I will take advice from him any day of the week!

Tin Man: Look For Less

Good evening lovelies! I hope you all had a wonderful New Year's Eve filled with good times and lots of laughter to remember for years to come. The other night I started watching the 3-part mini series entitled "Tin Man" from the SciFi channel, and I have fallen in love. Zooey Deschanel plays "DG" [Traditionally "Dorothy"] In it, she wears a sweet, simple, yet awesome traveling outfit. Much more practical than the one worn in the original movie by the original Dorothy.

Total: $69.98

Yes, this is $20 more than what I normally put into my blog. Trust me when I say, I searched the internet high and low for a more affordable jacket, but nothing went with this outfit like the Buffalo jacket. It was the closest to the one that Zooey wears.

I still decided to do this outfit because I feel like this outfit is the exact one that she wears in the mini-series, and I feel like this outfit looks great on anyone of any shape or size or coloring. This is one of those across-the board simple outfits. I'd rather bring you the exact replica than something less than what it should be.
