I saw this movie a little while ago and I fell head over heels in love with the main character's makeup. I've never done a black smokey eye on myself before, and I really don't use black eyeshadow often to begin with. This was definitely stepping outside of my comfort zone, but I wanted to really push myself for the last look of my challenge. I hope you lovelies enjoyed my challenge!

If any of you lovelies out there have heard of the amazing and talented artist Kimbra, then kudos to you, and if you haven't, she was the other half to the world-famous song "Somebody that I used to know". Yep, that women in the video is Kimbra. I've been obsessed with her for a few years now, and one of my favorite videos from her is "Good Intent". In the video her lover has essentially done her wrong and she's trying to decide whether or not to forgive him. Throughout the video she has her angel personality and her devil personality singing to her trying to sway her to each one's side. It's an amazing song and video, and her makeup/wardrobe in it is flawless. Her makeup is full glam in the video, so I decided to attempt to re-create the look from her "neutral" look, which is actually her. There is a "red" look which is the devil on her shoulder, and then there's the "white" look which is the angel on her shoulder, but the look her herself is wearing is black and very dark, smokey and stunning.

(I don't own vibrant magenta colors like what was used for her, I own softer to dark pinks/purples, but nothing vibrant like what's on her lids, so I used different colors for my recreation. I didn't go as dark with my eyebrows because they're so big when I go too dark it doesn't look right)

I have to admit, this is actually one of my favorite lip products I own. I don't use it as often as I should but I feel like this color is perfect for every season. I've worn it every season with different outfits and I always get compliments. I decided to contrast it today with brown/gold on the eyes.

I've had my bright Lime Crime velvetines for a little while, but it's hard for me to wear them since I mostly go to work and I can't go too bright at work. I have to go darker or more neutral for my makeup at work, so I definitely wanted to include my favorite color "Utopia" in my challenge. I was thinking about doing brown with the purple, but brown is my go-to and I wanted to challenge myself so I went with silver/grey. I only own 3 shades of grey (Not 50, har har har), so I created a softer but still visible grey look to balance the bright purple on my lips.

Have you ever had one of those days where no matter how much wax or gel you put in your eyebrows and no matter how many times you comb and style them they just won't do what you want them to? Today was one of those days for me. I've never done such a bold, dark dramatic eye before and it was a lot of fun. I decided to balance it with this beautiful pinky-nude from Too Faced.

So last night while in bed I decided to browse through Pinterest (a common occurrence) and I found an interesting picture of a model with a backwards-esque eyeshadow look. Normally how you go from corner and then go big outwards towards the end of your eyebrow, they had done it backwards in one intense hue. It was so bold and so inspiring that I decided to create my own version. Since the look is backwards, I did dark pink in the corner and smoked out to a light pink at the outter corners. The inner corners of my eye are sharp and harsh, but as it transitions into the soft pink I softened it and blended it out. Of course I smoked the bottom out too. I put an orange/magenta pigment on the inner corners of my eye, so I decided to pull out my OCC lip tar that I've only used once - this gorgeous shimmering burnt orange-y color. 

I feel a little punk rock, a little Effie Trinket, and a little David Bowie today, and I kinda like it.

I've never done a colorful ombre eye look before, so I thought I'd go for a really interesting eye look today to challenge myself and do a pretty, soft nude lip to balance it. I love this Too Faced lip color, and it's one I haven't used very much. I'm noticing I love and own nudes but I don't use them as often as my pinks. I love Too Faced cosmetics, and their lipsticks are so comfortable on the lips. They're intensely pigmented and go on very smoothly. The look I was going for on the eyes was more of a sunset-type hombre with gold, orange, fuchsia and a slight dark purple in the crease.

30 Days of Lips + Looks: Day 1 "Barbie Girl"

If anyone has read some of my previous lip product posts, then you've read/seen that I am slightly obsessed with lip products. Okay, not slightly, REALLY obsessed. However, I find myself gravitating towards certain colors again and again. Along from my lips, my eyeshadow situation is very similar to my lip situation. I love bold, fun colors, but guess what happens on a day-to-day basis....I gravitate towards very similar colors and looks. The problem is that it's easy for me to fall into a rut with my makeup, and so I decided to challenge myself for the next 30 days to put together interesting lip & eye looks every single day to push myself to get better and more creative.

Day 1: "Barbie Girl" - Covergirl Lipstick "Siren"

I bought this color a couple months ago and I haven't worn it yet. For this challenge I wanted to hit the ground running and go bold right out of the gate with something I haven't played with yet. This pink is awesome for the summer and I felt instantly more confident the second I put it on. It has pretty little gold flecks in it and is very pigmented. I felt really Barbie in this shade, so I decided to go with the theme and attempt a modern-day wearable Barbie look. Barbie is super girly with her eyes and lips, but the rest of her look is always pretty simple so I filled in my eyebrows just a little and kept it simple everywhere else, aside from the eyes and lips of course.
